Many tributes have been paid to Tom over the years and Belfast man Arthur C. Clarke, affectionately known as 'The Sportsman's Poet' put the following words to verse.

Tommy Herron - Silent Bike
His name will never be forgotten
In this great racing game
It was in his chosen sport
That raced him to great fame

He lit up the racing world
A genius on two wheels
A man destined to become immortal
A sportsman in life so real

Great crowds were amazed at his speed
When he went flashing past
Another great memory from our Tommy
For memories are made to last

It's when I hear them tuning up
And hear that word 'Go'
Then I remember Tommy more
For he always stole the show

And now my King of the Riders
You still stand out best of all
A name honoured for always
That we will always recall

Arthur C' Clarke

Another such tribute came from the pen of Lisburn man Oliver Armstrong in the early eighties, who wrote two songs in Tom's honour.

Tom is still the King
Verse
Every prize there was to win
Tom won them all
Among the giants of the sport
Tom walked tall
Tom the modest hero
Of whom we can be proud
So when we sing his praises
Let's sing them loud

Chorus
The king, the king
Tom is still the king
We know we will never
See his likes again
He brought so much glory
To the racing game
Tom is still the king
We won't forget his name

Verse
In the world of racing
His light will always shine
We know that his name
Will stand the test of time
He was our best ambassador
Of that we can be proud
So when we sing his praises
Let's sing them loud

Repeat Chorus

Oliver Armstrong

A Man like Tom Herron
Chorus
When sport's golden book is written
And its' glorious stories told
When the great names are written
Tom's will be in gold
He gave so much to racing
Asking little in return
The world will never forget
A man like Tom Herron

Verse
On every track around the world
He was maestro supreme
Flashing towards the chequered flag
On his silver dream machine
The many trophies that he won
The accolades received
Ensures he'll live forever
In racing history

Repeat Chorus

Verse
The world of motorcycle racing
Will never see his like again
Flashing across the finishing line
He was the master of his game
A super champion always
His skill will never be surpassed
Even among the greatest
Tom will never be outclassed

Repeat Chorus

Oliver Armstrong
