The two superb pieces of art on this page are the work of Northern Ireland artist Barry Cousins.

In the 1970's Barry was the man entrusted by Tom Herron with the painting of his race fairings and for a good number of years Tom would take the fairings to Barry's Magheralin studio.

Both paintings are part of Eddie Mateer's extensive private collection, indeed they were painted especially for Eddie.

One is a portrait study of Tom in 1975 when, as a then 26 year old, he was honing his skills on the continental GP scene.

The second depicts Tom at Ballaugh Bridge on his way to winning the Senior TT in 1976.

Many images of Tom have been painted over the years and these two rate as among the very best of them
